Pennsylvania Manhunt – Cavalcante Update

Authorities have reported that a convicted murderer who managed to escape from an eastern Pennsylvania prison more than two weeks ago is now considered “armed and extremely dangerous.” This follows his theft of a firearm from a nearby homeowner’s garage and subsequent discharge of multiple rounds in the direction of the pursuing fugitive. Danelo Cavalcante, aged 34, was located on Monday night in South Coventry Township, Chester County, which is approximately 20 miles north of the prison facility.

During a press conference on Tuesday morning, Pennsylvania State Police, responsible for the search operation, outlined the perimeter of the search area. They later confirmed that Cavalcante is believed to be located in the township region bordered by Routes 23 and 100, Fairview and Nantmeal Roads, Iron Bridge, and County Park Roads.

In response to this development, an emergency alert has been issued, urging residents to secure their homes, belongings, and vehicles. Any sightings or suspicious behavior should be immediately reported to 911, as emphasized by the state police in a social media post on Tuesday night.

According to Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens, a resident contacted the police on Monday around 10:10 p.m., reporting that a shirtless individual had entered his garage and absconded with a rifle from the premises. Bivens mentioned that there is currently no reason to believe that Cavalcante sustained injuries when the homeowner discharged his firearm at the fleeing fugitive. Additionally, a white t-shirt and a green sweater were discovered near the homeowner’s driveway.

Bivens emphasized that it appears Cavalcante is primarily focused on evading capture and ensuring his freedom at this time. He also clarified that the homeowner was present when the escapee entered the garage, and the firearm was not left unattended, indicating that the homeowner was not acting negligently.

This shooting incident and the subsequent theft of a firearm represent a significant escalation in the already tense manhunt for Cavalcante, who escaped from the county jail on August 31st. The situation is rapidly evolving, and authorities continue to work diligently to apprehend the fugitive.
