NDLEA Arrests Mohbad and Zino

The late Nigerian artist Aloba Oladimeji, better known by his stage name Mohbad, was not detained or arrested at any of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s (NDLEA) facilities, contrary to accusations made by some. In reaction to claims that their agents had forced the late artist to ingest a liquid after detaining him, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi addressed this matter with THE WHISTLER on Saturday. These allegations surfaced as a result of the distribution of a cut-down video that showed the late artist talking about his experience drinking something from bottled water in a hospital.

The late musician could be heard in the video speaking in Yoruba from a hospital bed and appearing to be in despair. “They now handed me a drink and claimed I use drugs,” he said. I was told to take sips of the water. A water bottle held it inside. The only other person who drank the water was myself. No one asked the others to sip the water either. It’s not a lie, that. I then claimed I had done nothing. The musician’s passing led to internet protests and debate.

Following the release of the video, questions started to surface requesting information from NDLEA regarding what was delivered to the deceased singer. However, neither the creation date of the video nor the events that brought him to the hospital were disclosed. During an interview with THE WHISTLER, Babafemi called the widely reported stories “Fake News.” In his words, “He was never arrested, much less to be in our custody.” Babafemi explained that the incident in question took place in February 2022 when the NDLEA raided Naira Marley’s home and made six arrests. Several sources claim that on February 24, 2022, NDLEA officers broke into Naira Marley’s home while she was away and imprisoned Mohbad and Oniyide Azeez, also known as Zinoleesky, on suspicion of illegal narcotics possession.
